Like many watersheds located near Nunavik villages, the Umiujaq watershed and its surroundings are experiencing the effects of increasing urbanization. Considering the ties forged with the community and the municipality over the past xx years, we agreed to work on contaminants and contamination in the broad, polysemic sense, whether it be chemical or anthropogenic elements. Indeed, the consequences are important for the local populations who live in this territory. We target as much the surface water, whose quality is essential to the life of the inhabitants of the village of Umiujaq, as the sediments, the flora and the fauna (terrestrial and aquatic, as sentinels). We present here the preliminary and multidisciplinary results obtained during the past year: what is the point of view of the good health of the rivers of Umiujaq by the inhabitants and the use they make of them? what are the traces of surface pollution detected in different elements of natural or artificial origin? what are the perspectives of research envisaged?
